You're looking to combine gin...and cricket! The Broken Bat Gin will do that in spades...or should we say, bats?
Hailing from India, it should come as no surprise that this is Nao Spirits' ode to the sport. But instead of being a one bat wonder, the quality of the gin means this is no gimmick.
Rather, Broken Bat Gin is a beautiful example of what a balanced cask aged gin can be. It has the toasty nuttiness and vanilla notes but juniper and citrus still shines. If you love whisky, you will identify with some of the flavour profile of this gin, as it is wonderful to sip on its own over ice.
But it is the story of the cask used to age the gin that is unique. If the name hasn't given you a clue, it should do. The distillery crowd-sourced cricket bats from the public and additionally also found off-cuts from a bat-maker in Kashmir to fashion the barrels. Wait what? If this isn't ingenious, we don't know what is!
The Broken Bat Gin is a limited edition from Nao Spirits, which has spearheaded the Indian craft gin movement. The brainchild of four friends, Anand Virmani, Viabhav Singh, Aparajita Ninan and Jay Dhawan, the foursome started out trying to find a company to make the gin for them in India. Lamenting the lack of options, they decided to make their own and the rest, as they say is history.
